Severna Park’s 9U Green Hornets travel baseball team completed a fine season in league and tournament play.

The Green Hornets went 10-2 in the regular season of the Chesapeake Baseball Association, second in the league, and made a run all the way to the playoff championship game. In that match, they fell 8-6 to the Eastern Shore’s Bigbie Blacksox to finish as league runners-up with a 13-3 overall record.

Players Fletcher Warner, Cooper Mengel, Logan Moran, Logan Clarke, Caden Morris, Conrad Maillard, Silas Lane, Conner Hall, Iain Anderson and Jonah Downey powered the success of the team, which also showed well in several tournaments throughout the spring and summer. The team went 2-0 at Lake Shore’s Mother’s Day tournament only to have championship Sunday’s slate of games rained out.

Head coach Chad Moran, who led the team with assistant coaches Bob Hall, Chad Morris and Jeff Mengel, said the team achieved and progressed at a high level throughout the season.

“Great group of boys who always gave it their best,” said Moran. “To see their growth and development in the course of their first season of kid-pitch was impressive to witness. By the end of the season we had several players (Conner Hall, Logan Clarke, Silas Lane and Conrad Maillard) become strong pitchers, with several others ready to take the next step. The hitting and defense was strong throughout the season.”

As with many sports programs in Severna Park that experience success from the youngest levels all the way through high school and beyond, Moran said the team is doing its part to keep the chain strong in every link.

“We feel we are building a strong foundation for Severna Park baseball,” Moran said.
